Newsgate

On the news last night they had a story about the investigation into Pat Tillman's death by friendly fire 3 years ago. The reporter said that they found 9 high ranking officers had "drastically misreported the circumstances of his death." What they mean, I think, is that they LIED in order to cover up the fact that a football hero had been killed in Afghanistan by friendly fire. I see this happening in reports about Congress and the President all the time. Why can't they just say these people lied? It's more direct, and it has the benefit of being true. You're not supposed to play softball with the news.

Also, what did they call scandals before Watergate? I would desperately like to return to the previous naming convention, or lack thereof. "Purgegate"? It's just silly, and a little unfair to the poor Watergate hotel.

Get CONSUMED

It's a love triangle.
With a demonic possession.
Played for laughs.

Really.

That is the ad copy on the ad for the comic book that I wrote. Woohoo! I freakin' wrote a comic! And its going to be published. That is awesome. Unlike Alex, my written work doesn't make it out to the world on a regular basis. I'd post the ad, but I think that would be illegal right now. Whenever I CAN post something, though, I will.

And believe me, the cover to issue #1 is going to make you want to rub yourself all over the main girl. She's so buxom!

Oh yeah, the name of the book is "Consumed," so now the title of this post should make sense.

This is Kinda Weird

The recent lower, Federal court decision that the 2nd Amendment trumps handgun bans in D.C. cited a rather infamous case for precedent -- Dred Scott.

In that case, the court found that the federal government lacked the authority to abolish a slaveowner's property right in his slaves merely by outlawing slavery in new territories. No one contends "that Congress can make any law in a Territory respecting the establishment of religion, or the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press... [n]or can Congress deny to the people the right to keep and bear arms, nor the right to trial by jury," Chief Justice Roger Taney, writing for a 7-2 court, explained in the section Silberman cited.

John McCain Sucks

Reason has a great piece up about John McCain's merry brand of "national greatness" authoritarianism.

To summarize: McCain's crummy on free speech (see McCain-Feingold), bad on gun rights, bad on state's rights (he's in love with Presidential power and the Exec Branch), bad on gay rights, bad on Internet rights, bad on Congressional War Powers, and so on.

Squelching Squaw

Squaw is the new "n-word"!

I can't honestly remember a time in real life where I've heard -- let alone used -- the word squaw, but it's bad. Very, very bad.
