If you like that, check this out: When we were backpacking up in the redwoods, jefferson told me about the world's largest living organism, which is a fungus that covers some ridiculous amount of land in Northern California, Oregon, and Washington.
Additionally, the world's largest trees, organisms, etc, are usually kept strictly under wraps, with only a few hundred scientists knowing their actual whereabouts, so that people don't decide to go carve their name in the world's biggest whatever.
I saw a really sad Doc about the oldest living thing - those trees out in the desert soemwhere, - and there was one that was probably older than the current record holder that someone had cut down to see how old it was back in olden times. Soooo sad.
Wouldn't it be cool if aliens landed and decided they only wanted to communicate with that giant fungus, because it was the largest (and in their alien eyes), most important entity on Earth.
