By comparison
I was thinking about this all morning anyway, but the post below just sort of cemented it. By comparison, nothing is ever as good as it could be. I am a compulsive comparer. Maybe I should stop. Some things are what they are.
On the other hand, I'd really like it if we got Osama.
I'm incorrigible.

I couldn't get on blogger yesterday to comment (conspiracy???), anyway, Zarqawi's killing is awesome, exciting news.
And now for the requisite "but..."
If it truly changes anything I'll be shocked.
As is, it's a great tactical and symbolic victory, but strategic? Who knows. In all honesty his killing would have been more exciting last year when it seemed like he really was the one calling all the shots. In the last 9-12 months the insurgency has diffused and decentralized even more so. (At least that's what I think, just from reading basic AP reports).
And oh yeah, OBL's still *the* prize. It's weird, though, because Zarqawi was more of a psychopathic thug/serial killer and not some Dr. Evil-type, I'm glad he's dead outright. But as time passes I increasingly want OBL alive and on trial in the U.S.
Ugh, I'd rather they just kill him so I don't have to sit through the endless yapping about the death penalty and what a monster and blah blah blah. We all know he's horrible and I'd rather just get on with my life.
Also, yeah, I can't imagine this makes Iraq any better. In fact, I'm hard pressed to think of anything that would. maybe a full scale occupation - maybe - but that will never happen.

Excellent point, sometimes I forget how mentally exhausting our culture can be. That Mousasoui (I don't care about spelling) trial became a sort of farce.
