Nude atheists!

In repsonse to Alex's post below, here's what I psoted on Begum: Yeah, what amuses me about the whole thing is that I have a lot more respect (unsurprisingly, I guess) for the values system of a secular humanist (atheist) who has those values for their own sake, rather than because of a fear of hell or any such thing.

Obviously you judge everyone on their own merits, and there are amoral religious folk just as there are amoral atheists, and both sometimes (often?) use their belief systems as a justification for their actions. But when you come to truly moral people, aren't those whose code represents deeply held personal beliefs of goodness and charity in and of themselves far more respectable?

Also, enjoy this quote from former president George HW Bush:

Robert Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?

George H.W. Bush: No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.

But let's forget about that, and enjoy this news item:

You want to talk anti-intellectualism, it doesn't get worse or more nonsensical than that Britney Spears "shrine" (more like a false idol). Really, of all people to rally around in the name of pro-life, you pick the slutty bimbo pin-up who pissed all over the supposed sanctity of marriage? WHAT?! Someone got their wires crossed. Badly. What idiots...

Obligatory 13-year-old boy question: what does that statue look like from the back?

Atheists are secular humanists, but not all secular humanists are atheists. There is a difference between the two, as secular humanism is an actual philosophical school of thought with a reach far outside of religion. Atheism is contained only to the realm of religion (or non-religion, I guess).

Stone Britney from behind looks like a satellite view of the Marianas Trench.

It's also true that not all atheists are secular humanists. You can not beliueve in god and also not believe in any sense of right and whatnot.

Supposedly you can see the baby crowning when you look at Britney from behind. Not exactly a turn on.
