A little scary
Missourri might get an official religion (Christianity, duh!)
What with Montana's abortion ban and now this I think we might be hitting the far end of our national lurch to the right. Sadly it isn't with any conservative views I can respect like balanced budgets or civil liberties, but rather with this cultural nonsense that I just hate hate hate. Anyway, I think pursuing this sort of thing will probably start the pendulum swinging back to the left. Most people really aren't going to stand for abortion being totally illegal and I hope that most people also see that an official religion is, you know, against the whole freedom of religion thing.

Missouri with one "r." South Dakota has the abortion ban (though I could see how you'd confuse it with Montana since they're so easy to forget). The heartland is morally superior, silly. Remember?
Ugh, it was early.
I never need to wake up to Christian Fundamentalism.
I think the official religion thing will hinge on whether SCOTUS holds that the 1st Amendment prohibits the Federal gov't from establishing an official religion, or ALL U.S. governments. I believe that originally it was interpreted to just mean the Federal gov't couldn't establish a religion. VA (Anglicanism) and CT (Congregationalism) had official religions for many years in the late 18th to early 19th centuries.
re: Abortion
Increasingly I look to one Dr. Gaius Baltar for guidance on this issue.
Duh. Here's Wikipedia on the Establishment Clause. Pay no attentiont to my stuff.
