Election 2005
Well, there's actually several minor elections happening this year. NJ Governor, VA Governor, NYC Mayor, and the CA Special Election. There's also an August election for an Ohio U.S. Rep. seat.
I'm predicting that NJ Governor will stay Dem.
VA will go GOP.
NYC will stay GOP.
The Ohio seat will go Dem, what with absolute power corrupting the GOP absolutely in that state.
And as for CA...eh, I don't know. I'll let you know in September what my gut's telling me.

Did you happen to catch the AP article a few weeks ago that reported that Californians were tired of elections and "over it." Sad, really. You know, 'cause the results of these elections affect living conditions in the state and all. Their primary argument for apathy was that people just couldn't deal with campaigning anymore. I suppose that's a pretty fair point, but c'mon!
Well, if CA citizens are tired of elections, then turnout will probably be low, and low-turnout usually favors conservative causes (what with a bunch of old, landed white people voting.)
Then again, this is CA and normal rules don't apply to our elections.
I guess a judge just threw out the redistricting proposal because the text of the initiative submitted to Sac Town didn't match the text people used to gather signatures.
So, Arnold has officially become what he replaced: An unpopular, incompetent, ineffectual governor. I mean, honestly, when something as simple as a paperwork error can derail your "Year of Reform" you might as well pack it in.
This is exactly why I didn't vote for him. I didn't even vote to kick out Davis. I think it's all stupid. We elected Davis and should have lived with the consequences until his term was up. Now we have to live with a bloated muscle man who spends more money than he should and holds special elections nobody gives a crap about anyway. Ugh. Enough already. Let's have a special election to get rid of Arnold.
So now the state is blowing millions of dollars for ONE proposal? Ugh. Even as liberal/democracy/acivism/involvement hyping as I am, I can understand how everyone is sick of elections. We just had a big giant special election to get Arnie, and then rather doing what we elected him to do and governing he just turns everything into a ballot initiative (because he can't compromise with the legislature) and so we just have to vote on eveything. We have elected representatives specifically so that we don't have to have this many elections.
