Goddammit
God cut from His Dark Materials film: "'They have expressed worry about the possibility of perceived anti-religiosity,' Weitz told a His Dark Materials fans' website."
Well of course. It's an ANTI-RELIGION BOOK! It's a children's book that takes a very dim view of religious institutions in which the characters, two 13 year olds in a sexualized relationship, set out to quite literally kill God. I mean, I guess this was to be expected, but what's the fucking point then?
Did nobody read the books before buying the rights? Or, more likely, do they just not care if they turn the whole endeavor into worthless pap that the puritans still won't go see and all the people who loved the books will disdain? Jolly, that.

I FUCKING KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN! Man, what's the point? I could see trying to replace the Church in the first book, but it just doesn't gel at all with the rest of the story. What about when Lord Asrael fights the Metatron? Is he just going to be a particularly burly fascist now? Boooo! Booooooooooooo!
Did you see this before I did? Strangeness.
I'm no expert on either, but it's pretty cool that fantasy has room for both pro-Christian (Narnia) and anti-Christian masterpieces (Materials).
